I painted this from life at the first stirrings of spring. St Brendan's is on the edge of Exmoor, near Lorna Doone country. The church stands proud above a steep valley through which flows a brook with primroses covered banks. It was built in 1738 to serve the scattered farms and village of Cheriton. It is dedicated to the Irish saint who is reputed to have discovered America.
